IDFC Tax Advantage ELSS Fund – Invest Online

History: The product was launched in the year 2008 on December 26. It is an open ended diversified equity scheme managed by Anirudha NAHA and Ankur Arora since May 2013 and Sep 2015 respectively and is benchmarked against BSE 200.

Nature of Investment:

It invests in stocks of companies with strong fundamentals and prospects of growth in the future. Generally overvalued stocks are given a miss in favor of those that have reasonable valuations. In a nutshell, 80% of the stock is invested in securities and 20% of them are in debentures to ensure minimum returns.

Performance:

Total market capitalization assets are in the tune of 349 CRORE according to the latest figures. If growth rates are to be compared, the fund has clocked 15.07% for the first and 22.64% for the third year which is way more than 6.44% and 13.97% of the benchmark. Also the volatility in the prices of the stock is low with a standard deviation of only 14.19% and SHARPE ratio of 1.02.

Portfolio:

About 18.49% of asset is allocated to giant companies whereas 29.82% is invested in large organizations. Similarly, the exposure to the mid cap stock is significant with 31.52% of the assets belonging to the category. Since only 16.82% of the stock is invested in small cap segment, the risk is below average.

Conclusion:

The fund has relatively less exposure to commodity and banking, therefore it is shielded from the risk however in case of Bull Run, and investors will be deprived of runaway appreciation. Large cap stocks have always been lower than the average figure of the stock category however the fund has significant number of assets in mid cap. Due to focus on quality, the investor can get returns at low risk.
