Reliance Health Wise - Silver

Objective

An online health insurance policy that aims at covering hospitalisation medical expenses and other incidental expenses in case insured person gets hospitalized.

Suited for

It can be bought as an individual or family floater covering your spouse and 2 children under the same policy.

What does it do?

A basic health insurance policy that covers against shospitalisation expenses. It also provides for treatment taken at home on advice of the doctor, day care treatment for illnesses or procedures which do not require an overnight stay in hospital due to technological progress and hospitalisation expenses of donor if a major organ transplant happens. Ambulance expenses and health check up are covered too.

Pros

There is no capping on room rent or ICU rent.
There are no sub-limits on different illnesses.
This policy can be bought online as well.
Premiums paid towards this policy enjoy a tax benefit under Section 80D.

Cons

It does not allow lifelong policy renewal.

Our View

A positive factor is that it has no sub-limits and no capping on expenses. Only drawback is that it doesn't allow lifelong policy renewal. Old age is the time when the chances of falling ill increase. Buying a new policy at higher age is tough and expensive as well. Preference should be given to the policies that offer lifelong renewal facility.

Mutual Fund Review: HDFC Index Sensex Plus

In terms of size, HDFC Index Sensex Plus may be one of the smallest offerings from the HDFC stable. But that has not dampened its show, which has beaten the Sensex by a mile in overall returns   HDFC Index Sensex Plus is a passively managed diversified equity scheme with Sensex as its benchmark index. The fund also invests a small proportion of its equity portfolio in non-Sensex scrips. The scheme cannot boast of an impressive size and is one of the smallest in the HDFC basket with assets under management (AUM) of less than 60 crore. PERFORMANCE: Being passively managed and portfolio aligned to that of the benchmark, the performance of the index fund is expected to follow that of the benchmark and in this respect, it has not disappointed investors. Since its launch in July 2002, the fund has outperformed Sensex in overall returns by good margins.    While every 1,000 invested in HDFC Index Sensex Plus in July 2002 is worth 6,130 now, a similar amount invested in Sensex then wo...
