E-Filing Income Tax

 E-filing Income Tax Return Online
 
The last date for filing income tax return is 31 July. If you intend to file your return on your own, you should know all the nuances of filing the return electronical ly using the income tax department's website or a private facilitating website.

Here are the steps you need to take for filing the IT return using the official web site of the Income Tax Department.

Register on IT website

You have to register on http:www.income taxindiaefiling.gov.in using your PAN and by entering personal and contact details.

You will then be sent an activation via e-mail and a mobile PIN to the registered mobile number, for activating the account.

IT return offline

You can download an XML utility available in the `Downloads' section of the website.

Once you enter the return details, it can be uploaded to the IT website.

Prepare return online

Alternatively, you can use the online form to supply information by going to `e-file' tab and selecting `Prepare and submit ITR online'. You must then select the name of the ITR form, assessment year and other mandatory details from the menu.

Submit with DSCEVC

The return can be filed using digital signature or an electronic verification code. A Digital Signature Certificate (DSC) can be obtained by registering for the same on the e-filing website.

Submit with ITR-V

Alternatively, an ITR-V form can be gener ated. This is an acknowledgment cum veri fication form that has to be signed and sent to the CPC within 120 days from the date of e-filing.

Processing

Once you have finished e-filing the return using DSCEVC or through ITR-V, it will be processed further, and the you will be notified accordingly.

 

The option of filling up the ITR online is available only for ITR 1 and ITR 4S.

Check your registered email id periodically for any notifications or communication from the IT department regarding the return you filed.
