UTI Top 100 had come to be known as an average performer. That is until last year, when the scheme outperformed its benchmark. With a new fund manager on board, it may just be worthwhile for existing investors to stay put

 

Top 100 is the outcome of a series of mergers of some of the older schemes from UTI - Index Select, Large Cap and Master Growth and rechristened as Top 100 in2009. But the investor interest in UTI Top 100 has been lukewarm, given its just about average performance until 2010. Since its launch in 1993, it has generated about 474% absolute returns against 834% returns by BSE 100. It is however its performance last year - in significantly curtailing the downfall that has been noteworthy. Now that it has tasted success, it will be interesting to see if it succeeds in maintaining this rhythm in performance even in future.
