BIS - Beuro of Indian standards

 

Beuro of Indian standers is the only agency in India to determine the purity of the Gold. BIS hallmarking is voluntary in nature. BIS hall marking scheme has been aligned with the International criteria on hallmarking (Vienna convention1972). As per this scheme License is granted to the jewelers by the BIS under hallmarking scheme. BIS certified jewelers can get their jewelery hallmarked from any of the BIS recognized assaying and standardized center. BIS Hallmark logo consists of:

 

1) BIS mark,

2) the fineness number,

3)assaying and hallmarking center mark,

4) jewelery identification mark,

5)year of marking denoted by a code letter decided by the BIS.

The period between January and March typically sees an uptick in the launch of fixed maturity plans, or FMPs. Not this year. Instead, fund houses are busy rolling over or extending the tenure of their one- year FMPs launched last year to three years. Investors in one- year FMPs have a choice. Either redeem units or roll over to three years. If you exit now, your gains will be added to your income and taxed in line with your individual slab rate of 10, 20 or 30 per cent.
